I am consistently amazed by some of the iPhone applications that people develop. Take EasyWakeup, for instance. I would just assume avoid the $15 payment and just keep sleeping.

It's been a while. I'm still here.

Graphical emoticons built into Gmail. Ugh.

Usually I can take it or leave it when it comes to emoticons.  But yesterday Google released graphical emoticons in Gmail.  I like them in chat, and occasional ones in email conversations, but I've too often seen emoticons abused.  Now with graphical versions of them built-in to the online email used by universities and companies alike, I'm a little bit concerned that my email box will soon be filled with small graphical unmentionables strewn throughout the text to communicate ideas "that words alone fail to describe".

Ratatat.

AUCTeX makes life slightly easier.

If you use Emacs to write LaTeX documents, I suggest installing and using AUCTeX.  It forces you to remember to put labels on chapters/sections/subsections, helps with environments and offers some nice visual features like text folding and slightly-nicer-than-default syntax highlighting.  Also, C-c C-c (compile) works a bit nicer with AUCTeX than without it.
