I am not sure if it's okay to use services like BugMeNot, where you use a shared "fake" ID to bypass free registration of various services. It's unclear to me exactly why it's important for companies to have your name and email address when all you're doing is reading their articles or downloading their free software (this makes some sense--they want you to bug you to buy their non-free software).
